Paul E. Phonics is a musical alter ego of Canadian Paul McCormick, a side of the musician that evolved from his fondness for New Wave, Electronica, Progressive Rock, Industrial Rock and Film Scores. The combination of these influences has led to a sound that is utterly unique with each song becoming the equivalent of a short film in its own right with abstract, poetic lyrics revealing the plot like some kind of secret code.
McCormick left his homeland in 2000 in search of new musical inspiration ending up in Berlin, Germany. After years of playing in various bands and performing alone with his acoustic guitar in the smaller cafés and clubs of the city, he decided in 2009 to take a different approach and awaken some aspects of his musical personality that had been dormant for years. The result is "Paul E. Phonics" - a singer/songwriter for the 21st century - essentially a one man band with Paul on keyboards and vocals accompanied by his laptop.

RELEASES
The Chameleon (New Skin) - 1st Anniversary Remix Single
Release Date: Dec. 13, 2011
_ It’s been a
great year for Paul E. Phonics and he wants to end it on a high note with the
release of a very special single. One year ago he released “The Chameleon E.P.”
and to celebrate the first anniversary he has remixed the title track and is
releasing it as a free download on his website www.paul-e-phonics.com on Dec.
13, 2011. Consider it a little holiday gift.
“The Chameleon (New Skin)” resembles the original with its ethereal synths, pounding beat and dark, moody vocals. But this version is shorter, tighter and includes a powerful chorus that will echo through your mind long after the first listen. It’s post-punk on steroids, a little bit Joy Division, a little bit Nine Inch Nails and all Paul E. Phonics.
“I am the chameleon, watch me as I change my skin”. This opening line says it all. Paul E. Phonics isn’t afraid to change, experiment and grow as a musician and this song is a perfect example of that. Compare it to the original and you’ll hear a more focused, mature and self-confident artist who is dedicated to improving his craft with every new release.
It’s amazing the difference a year can make!

The Summer (That Never Was) - Single & Video
Release Date: Sept. 8, 2011
What a long, strange summer it has been. Rain, wind, storms and more rain turned the summer of 2011 into a season of frustration, at least in Europe. But desperate times call for desperate measures and Paul E. Phonics managed to find some inspiration in the grey skies which resulted in the new single “The Summer (That Never Was)”. Moody, a bit melancholy but also strangely upbeat and danceable, the song is simultaneously a lament and an attempt to bolster the spirits of those whose summer was as miserable as his own. Forget the clouds, forget the rain, it’s time to get lost in the beat and hope that next summer will be better.
"The Summer (That Never Was)" will be released on Sept. 8, 2011 as a free download available through the Paul E. Phonics homepage www.paul-e-phonics.com and you can check it out below in the accompanying video, the first "real" video for a Paul E. Phonics song.
